On Monday, I spoke to you about perspective. Today, I’d like to share with you a powerful TED video featuring Roger Ebert that will give us a little more of that perspective. Roger Ebert’s “talk” also reminds us to be thankful for something most of us have taken for granted: our voices.
As we celebrate this week of Thanksgiving, it may be a good thing to ask ourselves: what are we taking for granted? The answer to this question may reveal to us that we have plenty to be thankful for this holiday weekend.
much “Happy Thanksgiving!”

I am convicted to know that I take time for granted a lot. I lay around dreaming about what I can do and should do. I make to-do lists, but still lay around psyching myself to get to doing. Time is limited. We get older each day and age is not an excuse not to do what should be done, but time is lost as we age. I think I should go the bed early so I can get up early to start life and living.
Oh and this video makes me realize how sometimes I am silent when I should be speaking and in some cases shouting. Thank you for this post.
You’re welcome. And thank you for sharing.
A year back i turned 60.I have all these years lived an active life. With advancing years i realize that i am taking my health for granted. I need to value my life more.May be i am taking life for granted.I need to cherish and be thankful for each moment that is being given to me, need to be thankful for the abundance that is all around me. I do realize that i spend a lot of my precious time lamenting and complaining and in anger.I do have a lot to be thankful for and that is what i am going to do. Focus on the blessings and doing and thinking constructive.
Great advice, anita. Very thoughtful. We’ll all take that to heart.
I take too much for granted: The fact that I can stay home and write and that my husband works so hard to provide a terrific home for us; the fact that my boys are both good kids and try so hard to do what is right; my terrific church family who continues to love even when I’m unloveable; and my ability to write, which is a calling I have neglected for so long. Hearing stories like Roger Ebert’s gives a huge dose of perspective, and I am very thankful for that.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts Kari!
Thanks, Ollin for sharing this video on this weekend.
You’re welcome Lyndie! Powerful, isn’t it?
In 1999, I took my ability to get around for granted. As I was about to cross a street, I suddenly feared that I would not make it before getting run over by an oncoming truck. Obviously, I did make it across safely. Weeks later, I was scrambling up rocks in Costa Rica like a mountain goat. The freedom I felt was exhilarating. That episode taught me to treasure every moment of health and time I am able to share with family and friends. (I later learned I had gout and have since gotten it under control.) Thank you for sharing this inspirational video.
What a great story. Thank you for sharing!
